IAEA IRRS mission to Lithuania is planned for May 2026

On October 21−22, 2025, a preparatory meeting for the International Atomic Energy Agency's Integrated Regulatory Review Service mission (hereinafter IRRS mission) was held in Vilnius. During the meeting, the scope and organizational issues of the planned IRRS mission, experts' expectations, and preparation deadlines were discussed.

A full-scope IAEA IRRS mission to Lithuania is planned for May 17−27, 2026. This mission will be hosted by the State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) and the Radiation Protection Centre (RSC).

During the IRRS mission, IAEA experts will assess the compliance of Lithuania's nuclear and radiation safety regulatory and supervisory system with international safety standards.

The implementation of the IAEA IRRS mission in Lithuania will also implement the requirements set out in the Directive of the Council of the European Union (2014/87/EURATOM) regarding the international peer review of relevant segments of the national framework and competent regulatory authorities with the aim of continuously improving nuclear safety.
