Nuclear security issues discussed in Lithuania during the visit of representatives of the US Department of Energy
12 February 2024 VATESI held a meeting of nuclear material control and physical security specialists with representatives of the US Department of Energy's Office of Nuclear Illicit Trafficking Detection and Prevention. During the meeting, the guests were briefed on the functions and activities of VATESI in the areas of nuclear material control and physical security. They also reviewed the cases of illicit movements of nuclear and other radioactive materials that Lithuania has submitted to the International Atomic Energy Agency's Incident and Trafficking Database (ITDB). The participants also visited the VATESI Emergency Operations Centre and were interested in the competences of Lithuanian specialists and the need for skills development.
