VATESI comment regarding the fire incident at the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant radioactive waste management facility
On November 25, the State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) received information about a fire incident at the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant's radioactive waste management facility.
The company reported that the situation was under control, the fire had been extinguished, there were no casualties, and there was no any radiation risk to employees, residents and the environment.
It was no any release of radioactive materials into the environment. All technological operations are temporarily suspended until the investigation, repairs, and inspections are completed before restarting the facility.
In accordance with the established safety requirements, the company shall investigate the incident and submit its conclusions to VATESI for evaluation within the specified time limits.
